Struggling to screenshot your Galaxy Z Fold 8? Try these 7 other methods

Over the years, countless Galaxy phone users have developed a common habit of capturing screenshots using the side buttons. Pressing the side and volume-down keys together is usually the fastest and most reliable method. Usually.

It isn't if you're using a foldable phone, though. Sure, you can capture screenshots using the physical buttons just as easily when the phone is folded. But if you've unfolded your brand-new Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and tried to capture a screenshot using the traditional method, you've probably already noticed how awkward it can be.

The latest Fold models are too light, too thin, and too large when unfolded to comfortably press both buttons simultaneously. And the fact that the side and volume-down buttons don't have the same tactile feel or resistance doesn't help.

Thankfully, Samsung offers several other ways to capture screenshots. If you're a new Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Ultra user and the side-button method doesn't quite work as you'd expect, here are your alternatives.

NOTE: You can use these methods on other Galaxy Z Fold models as well.

When enabled, you can capture screenshots on your Galaxy Z Fold by swiping the edge of your palm across the screen. Yes, you have to touch the screen with the edge of your palm and swipe it. It works left to right or right to left.

To turn this on: Open Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures > Palm swipe to capture.

One UI's Quick Panel gives you quick access to many features on your Galaxy phone with just a swipe and a tap. And, you guessed it, there's a screenshot quick toggle you can use.

First, you'll probably have to enter the Quick Panel edit mode and add the screenshot quick toggle — called Screen capture — to your favorites. Once you do, you can swipe the Quick Panel open and press the screenshot quick toggle any time you want to capture your screen.

If you intend to capture and immediately crop a screenshot, you can streamline the process and do it all at once through AI Select.

Access it via the Edge panel. Pull the Edge tab, tap AI Select, specify which area of the screen you want to capture, and tap the download icon to save it to your Gallery.

This method requires Samsung's Good Lock app and the NavStar module, but it's one of your best screenshot options if you use navigation buttons across One UI instead of navigation gestures.

Using NavStar, you can add a screenshot shortcut to the navigation bar and always have quick access to this tool — or as long as the navigation bar is visible.

Good Lock is now available globally, so you don't have to worry about availability. Download the app from Google Play or the Galaxy Store, open it and switch to its Plugins tab, and install the NavStar module to get started.

To add the screenshot shortcut, open NavBar, switch to the Buttons tab, and turn it on using the toggle at the top. Then tap New Configuration, followed by Add button. Select the Screen capture shortcut, tap Save, followed by Done to add the shortcut to the navigation bar.

If you use navigation gestures and like the idea of having a permanent on-screen button for capturing screenshots, you can try the Assistant Menu accessibility feature.

When enabled, you get a floating button you can move anywhere on the screen. Once you tap it, it expands into more buttons. One of them is a screenshot shortcut.

To turn this on, open Settings > Accessibility > Interaction and dexterity > Assistant menu.

You can also customize which items and shortcuts the Assistant Menu should contain.

Whether you're using Google Assistant or Bixby, you can long-press the side key to activate your assistant and ask it to capture a screenshot.

It's that simple. The assistant will disregard its own pop-up and capture everything behind it. It will then save the screenshot to your Gallery.

Last but not least, if you plan on capturing screenshots while gaming on your new Galaxy Z Fold 8 or 8 Ultra, there's a convenient shortcut you can access via Game Booster.

Swipe the Game Booster tab from the left side of the screen and tap Screenshot. If the option is missing, you can tap the pencil icon and customize which buttons show up in the Game Booster pop-up.
