Unlocked Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra units had the honor of getting the June 2021 security update before their carrier-locked counterparts, but the latter are finally beginning to catch up. T-Mobile has started rolling out the latest firmware update for the Galaxy S21 series, and units locked to Sprint are also getting the same update – firmware version G99xUSQU4AUF5.
Camera lag fix reaches Galaxy S21 units on T-Mobile and Sprint
We should ideally be seeing the July security update rolling out at this time for Samsung's latest flagships, but it's still good to see that North American carriers aren't falling too far behind, especially when you considering how important this particular update is. It brings a fix for all the lag in the camera app, particularly when zooming in and zooming out, and also improves performance of the camera's Portrait mode.
It also adds the ability to scan QR codes saved in the gallery to the built-in QR code scanner (accessible from the notification shade toggles). Furthermore, Samsung says it has addressed device overheating issues, though some users still complain about their Galaxy S21-series phone being a little too hot for their liking.
Of course, the June 2021 security patch is included in the update as well. You can download it over the air from your Galaxy S21, S21+, or S21 Ultra's Settings » Software update menu or use our archives to grab the latest firmware and install it on the phone using a Windows PC. Don't forget to backup your data if you choose the latter route.
