Tap to Share coming to Quick Share on Samsung Galaxy devices soon

Galaxy users will soon be able to share photos, videos, contacts, website links, and more via Quick Share simply by tapping their Galaxy device against another Galaxy device.

Called Tap to Share, Google has revealed that the feature will be coming to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Flip 8 soon. It will then come to other Galaxy devices running Android 17 (One UI 9) later this year.

We first saw hints of this feature in leaked One UI 9 firmware for the Galaxy S26 series and expected it to be available on the new foldables out of the box, as they ship with Android 17. That ended up not being the case, though it won't stay that way for long.

When on the home screen, tapping two devices together will transfer contact information. To send photos, videos, or other content, users will have to open the content, tap the Share button, and then tap the two devices together to begin the transfer.

That's how Tap to Share works on Google's Pixel devices, including the new Pixel 11 lineup. Announced on August 12, the Pixel 11 series is the first to get the feature, and we can expect it to work similarly on Galaxy devices.

For devices older than the Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8, and Flip 8, Tap to Share will first require the Android 17/One UI 9 update. One UI 9 is currently in beta for the Galaxy S26 series, with the beta program expected to expand to more devices soon. The stable update, meanwhile, is unlikely to start rolling out before September.

It remains to be seen how soon Tap to Share itself will arrive, so owners of older Galaxy devices may have a bit of a wait ahead of them.
