We've been waiting with bated breath for the Exynos 2200's AMD Radeon-based GPU to demolish the competition ever since its announcement last year. So far, it has managed to demolish everything Apple/Qualcomm has to offer. We now know a little more about its specs thanks to a new leak from Ice Universe, a day before Samsung is expected to unveil the chipset.
The popular tipster states that the AMD Radeon GPU on the Exynos 2200 will be clocked at 1,300MHz, a smidgen above the A15 Bionic's 1,200MHz clock speed. We can't compare the two offerings based on clock frequencies alone, though. This figure also sits in line with an earlier report that talked about the GPU's overclocking capabilities.
It is clear that Samsung has nerfed the Exynos 2200's AMD RDNA2 GPU to keep thermals in check. Early tests showed that it could operate at 1,800MHz, but required a power budget of 10W, something that is mind-bogglingly high for a mobile device. Little is known about the GPU's specs for now, but rumour has it that it could pack 4 CUs (Compute Units) and support raytracing on a hardware level.
We also have to bear in mind that the Samsung Exynos 2200 is more than just the AMD GPU. While it runs ARM's newest Cortex X2, Cortex-A510 and Cortex-A710 cores, its initial Geekbench runs have been quite disappointing, especially when compared to the Snapdragon Gen 1. Its NPU is quite underwhelming, too, a report says.
