Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta launched Threads, a text-based social media platform that competes directly with X, last month. At the moment, Threads lacks many basic features that its rival X (formerly Twitter) offers. That means Meta has a lot of features to add to its new social media platform. The company has now addressed three of them.
Mark Zuckerberg has announced that people can now send a post from Threads as a DM (Direct Message) on Instagram. The new feature makes it easier for people to share content from Threads with their friends on Instagram. Speaking of posting content, people can now add a custom Alt-Text to the photo or video that they share on Threads, giving people additional context about it, especially if images or videos don't load for some reason.
The third feature is the most noteworthy one. Meta has added a mention button to Threads, which enables people to tag someone in their posts and replies. The ability to tag an account makes it so much easier for people to refer to someone. To use the latest feature, just type ‘@‘ in your post/reply, mention the user’s profile name, select the appropriate account, and you are done. This process is similar to tagging someone on X.
While Meta has a long list of features to add to Threads, it will be focusing on launching the web version of the social media platform, which is extremely necessary for a social media platform in general (especially for competing with X). A web version would allow brands, government authorities, and institutions to share the content they post on Threads more easily. It would increase the reach of Threads significantly.
