TikTok, the booming social media network, which is widely criticized for increasing users' screen time, has now released a new feature that will help teens cut down on their screen time. And with its new parental controls, parents can set a screen time limit and pause push notifications.
Users below 18 years will get a default screen time limit of 60 minutes per day, but users can change that according to their own needs. However, even those users who spend 100 minutes or more on the social networking app will get notified about their high screen time. Parents will be able to control the TikTok screen time of their children and even set a passcode. They can even increase the daily limit by 30 minutes at a time.
TikTok worked with a team of experts at the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children's Hospital to develop this 60-minute limit. Caregivers and parents can check their children's screen time, modify the limits, the number of times the app was opened, and get a complete breakdown of the total time spent.
Parents can even mute notifications on the TikTok app for their kids' accounts. Currently, users aged below 15 years don't get push notifications after 9 PM, while those aged from 16 to 17 years don't get notifications after 10 PM. Since increasing screen time is a significant health issue, TikTok is also bringing a feature that will notify users to log off, leave the device, and go to bed.
