A few weeks ago, the Galaxy S21 FE received the September 2023 security update globally. In the US, though, the update was released only for the carrier-locked version of the smartphone. Now, Samsung has started rolling out the September 2023 security update to the factory-unlocked version of the Galaxy S21 FE.
The new update for the unlocked Galaxy S21 FE (SM-G990U1) comes with firmware version G990U1UES9EWH2 in the US. It includes the September 2023 security patch that fixes over 60 security vulnerabilities found in the previous software version. It doesn't bring any new features or performance improvements. The update is available on all carrier networks in the US.
If you have a factory-unlocked version of the Galaxy S21 FE, you can check for the new update right away. To do that, navigate to Settings » Software update and tap Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S21 FE in early 2022 with Android 12 onboard. The company promised to release four major Android OS updates to the phone, and it has already released one of those updates: Android 13. The Android 14 update is expected to be released sometime in the next couple of months.
