More evidence is piling up to suggest that Samsung is preparing to re-re-release the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, or at least, bring to the market a successor of some kind. As odd as it may seem, recent reports and events indicate that Samsung is refreshing this aging tablet for a 2024 launch, and recently, the alleged Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) showed up at the Global Certification Forum (GCF).
The tablet popped-up at GCF rocking model number SM-P625. The latter indicates that the variant certified has 4G connectivity. But more about model numbers later.
No other details were revealed by GCF (via NashvilleChatter), but that's not all.
This odd refreshed tablet was also spotted strolling through the online benchmark Geekbench in late January. The benchmark entry gives us a better idea of the tablet's specifications.
The entry in Geekbench carries model number SM-P620, which should correspond to the Wi-Fi-only Galaxy Tab S6 Lite refresh. The benchmark suggests that the tablet is powered by the Exynos 1280 chip, 4GB of RAM, and Android 14.
Another chip upgrade two years later
The original Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (SM-P610 / SM-P615) is almost four years old. It shipped with an Exynos 9611 chip and Android 10.
Two years after its release, Samsung refreshed the Tab S6 Lite with the 2022 model (SM-P613 / SM-P619), which shipped with the newer Android 12 OS version and the Snapdragon 720G or 732G chip, depending on connectivity options.
Given these model numbers, it's only logical to deduce that the SM-P620 and SM-P625 model numbers discovered at GCF and Geekbench belong to a refresh of a refresh and may hit the market as the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024). Samsung hasn't confirmed this, but that's where the breadcrumb brail has been leading so far.
Whether or not this refreshed Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) model will have anything more to offer than a newer OS version and chip remains to be determined. But if priced correctly, it might be a decent value proposition for tablet buyers on a budget looking for an S Pen-compatible slate.
Rumors also say that Samsung might be refreshing the Galaxy Watch 4 for a 2024 re-release alongside the Tab S6 Lite, but time will tell whether this is true or a good idea, even.
