Samsung surprised everyone by releasing the Android 14/One UI 6 update for a budget phone like the Galaxy A14 5G well ahead of some flagship Galaxy smartphones (including the expensive Z Fold and Z Flip foldables).
As always, though, the update didn't reach every market on day one. In fact, the rollout is still underway, more than a month after the update's initial release. This week, Android 14 for the A14 5G has reached the US market.
Verizon's Galaxy A14 5G is the first to get the update. The variant sold by other carriers and factory-unlocked units are still running Android 13, but we will let you know once that changes. For Verizon users, the update sports firmware version A146USQU5CWL6 and is bundled with the December 2023 security patch.
As a budget phone, the Galaxy A14 5G doesn't get all of the new features from One UI 6 and Android 14, but the changelog is not short, either. From camera features like a home screen widget and more watermark options to a redesigned quick panel and better control over notifications, there is a lot that will change on your A14 5G once you install the update on it.
The update can be downloaded over the air from the phone's Settings » Software update menu. Be sure to use a Wi-Fi connection or ensure you have enough bandwidth available on your data plan before initiating the download, and also make sure to have the phone's battery charged to at least 30%.
