If there was still any doubt after our exclusive Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Fold 7 report, we are now certain that Samsung is working on the next major OS update, the Android 16-based One UI 8, behind the curtain.
We even got a glimpse of an early One UI 8 development build today, so we have a good idea of what you can expect once the update goes live later this year.
Just how massive of an update will One UI 8 be? Will it have the same impact as One UI 7? It doesn't look like it right now, and we shouldn't expect two massive overhauls back-to-back. Nevertheless, here is a quick summary of some of the features we should get from One UI 8 once it rolls out to the public.
So far, these are the main One UI 8 features that are in development, but others could be added down the line. Samsung hasn't finished polishing the upcoming update, and the company could enrich the experience through more features, some of which may be inspired by Android 16.
Previous rumors hinted at multitasking improvements in One UI 8, along with better Samsung DeX controls, third-party widget support for the lock screen, and maybe even slightly improved Galaxy AI features.
Of course, nothing is set in stone right now, but it's important to keep in mind that One UI 7 is a significant upgrade already, and the follow-up will likely be more constrained.
Furthermore, Samsung doesn't have much development time left. One UI 8 will debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 foldable phones, and both should be announced at Unpacked this summer. We don't expect One UI 8 to change drastically in just a few months.
