As part of its goal to make WhatsApp the most feature-packed messaging client, Meta has added numerous new functionality to the app over the last few months.
Earlier this year, WhatsApp gave users the option to share their screen with others over video calls, and a few months later, hints were found inside the app's code that screen sharing would also be updated with the ability to share audio playing on a device with participants of the call.
WhatsApp introduced audio sharing in a beta version for iOS earlier this month, and it has now released the feature to some users of WhatsApp beta on Android. As you can see in the screenshot below (via WABetaInfo), any audio that plays on your phone will be shared with people in the call.
Listening to music or watching videos together will no doubt be one of the best use cases for audio sharing, though WhatsApp will bar users from sharing audio from apps that feature copy protection, such as Netflix and other streaming services. It's possible audio from games will be disabled as well.
Audio sharing on video calls is available on version 2.23.26.18 of WhatsApp beta for Android; there's no telling when the feature will go live for everyone globally, which is standard fare for most new features that are introduced to the app.
