Meta is rolling out a new big update for WhatsApp status. As you may know, the status feature allows WhatsApp users to share so-called “ephemeral updates” that disappear after 24 hours. They can include photos, videos, GIFs, and text. The feature's been out for about a year, and now, WhatsApp is bringing more status updates.
The platform now allows users to share statuses with select contacts rather than everyone. Furthermore, WhatsApp statuses now support Voice Status, which allows users to record and share voice messages of up to 30 seconds.
In addition, WhatsApp users can now react to statuses through quick replies by swiping up and tapping one of the eight available emojis. And through the latest update, users also get a new status profile ring so they can avoid missing out on status updates from other people.
Last but not least, the new update introduces link previews for status updates, giving users a better idea of what they're about to click on. WhatsApp developers say that this new update has started rolling out globally but will reach users worldwide gradually over the coming weeks.
