Last week, Meta added three new features to WhatsApp’s video call functionality, making it much more convenient to use. However, the company seems to be working on adding a bunch of other features to WhatsApp’s video calls, including augmented reality (AR) effects, backgrounds, and filters.
According to a new report from WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android (version 2.24.13.14) offers three tabs at the bottom of a video call, Filters, Backgrounds, and Effects, as you can see in the screenshot below.
WhatsApp video calls to get more fun
Starting with the Filters tab, you will get an option for softening your skin’s texture to hide imperfections, an option for touching up your skin to make it look more polished without altering your look drastically, and a low-light mode to improve the video quality in poorly-lit environments.
Coming to the Backgrounds tab, you will get various backgrounds. You can choose one to replace your existing background. This feature will come in handy when you don’t want to show what’s behind you or add a touch of fun to video calls.
The story continues after the video…
Lastly, in the Effects tab, you will be able to see AR effects, similar to the ones you see on Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Snapchat, such as party hats and party poppers. These AR filters will help you make your video calls more fun.
At the moment, there’s no information about when Meta will bring these features to the stable version of the app. However, it should do so in the next few months.
