Yesterday, the Samsung Food app was unveiled. It is a new addition to the company's SmartThings platform. It was clear that the company is integrating the existing Whisk service that offers meal planning and recipes. Now, it has been revealed that it is a complete rebranding of the Whisk app.
Samsung has now announced that the Whisk app is being rebranded to Samsung Food. Yesterday, the company's press release mentioned Samsung Food, but the link to the app was leading to Whisk on the Play Store. With the rebranding now complete, it is clear that Samsung has acquired Whisk and renamed it to Samsung Food. The app is now available for Android and iOS devices.
Samsung Food is available in over 100 countries worldwide and has over 160,000 recipes. You can choose your meals from that vast database or save recipes from the web. The app helps you prepare recipes by offering step-by-step procedures. Samsung says the app focuses on four things: recipe discovery, personalization, tailored meal planning, and social sharing of recipes.
This app ties into Samsung's SmartThings ecosystem. It can be used with smart home appliances such as BESPOKE Family Hub Refrigerators, BESPOKE AI Oven, and induction cooktops by the end of this year. In the future, the app will offer AI-based food recognition to detect things in the refrigerator and offer suggestions for recipes, along with nutrition information.
