Introduction

Samsung is not a brand commonly associated with fitness products, but the company has a strong lineup of fitness-focused wearables in the form of fitness trackers and smartwatches. While these products may not be geared towards more advanced users, they offer enough bells and whistles in an attractive package to appeal to casual customers.

Samsung sells its fitness bands under the Galaxy Fit branding, previously known as Gear Fit. They often blur the line between a smartwatch and a fitness tracker with their comparatively big and beautiful AMOLED displays and smartwatch features. The latest devices in this lineup are the Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit-e, with the latter being the cheaper and less-capable variant of the former.

Design

The Galaxy Fit doesn’t change anything dramatically in terms of design or form factor when compared to its predecessors. Instead, it refines and builds on the existing design language of the Fit series. Unlike rival bands that prioritize comfort with their utilitarian design, Samsung’s Galaxy Fit also focuses on looks without adversely impacting comfort a lot.

It is made out of plastic and comes with rubber straps that can, thankfully, be replaced with third-party offerings to suit your comfort or design preferences. The band comes with a flat pill-shaped rectangular AMOLED display with rounded corners and a multi-purpose button on the left side. On the back, there are some screws and a heart-rate sensor. The whole package measures 18.3 x 45.1 x 11.2t weighs just 23 grams with the strap.

Specs

The Galaxy Fit comes with an MCU Cortex M33F 96Mhz chip, 2MB RAM, 32MB ROM, heart-rate sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, 120mAh battery, Bluetooth v5.0 (LE only), NFC, wireless charging, and a 0.95-inch Full-Color AMOLED display with a pixel density of 282 PPI. It runs Samsung's FreeRTOS (Realtime OS) and lacks GPS and 24/7 heart-rate tracking. It is 5ATM water resistant and boasts MIL-STD-810G durability standard. You can head over to our Galaxy Fit page for the complete list of specifications.

Software and Features

The Galaxy Fit runs Samsung's FreeRTOS (Realtime OS) and is compatible with devices running Android 5.0 or higher with 1.5GB RAM and above and iPhone 7 or higher with at least iOS 10.0 onboard. When paired to a smartphone, the Fit can display incoming alerts and allows users to reply instantly to messages with preset replies. It also syncs Do Not Disturb settings with the connected smartphone to avoid interruptions.

Coming to the fitness features, the Galaxy Fit features Samsung's automatic workout detection for up to six activities. Users can also manually select from more than 90 different workouts in the Samsung Health app on their smartphone and the Fit will start to track the chosen activity. The device supports stress and sleeps tracking as well.

Availability

Samsung announced the Galaxy Fit and Fit-e at the Galaxy S10 Unpacked event in February, with the former hitting the shelves towards the end of May. The Galaxy Fit is priced at $99 in the US and comes in black and silver color options. Pricing and availability may vary depending on the region.
