Introduction
Samsung hasn't given up on launching flagship Android tablets. It's among the last few manufacturers that still make these flagship tablets. Samsung significantly improved its offering last year with the Galaxy Tab S6 and it followed that up with two new models in 2020 – the Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+.
There are quite a few differences between the two tablets even though the Galaxy Tab S7 hasn't been designated as a “Lite” variant. It does share some core internals with the larger tablet, though.
Design
The Galaxy Tab S7 has a familiar high-end Samsung tablet design. The full metal build is complemented very nicely by the brushed metal sides. The 11-inch display dominates the front with slimmer bezels. Samsung has changed the front camera's location from the top bezel to the side. It's a refreshingly thin tablet at just 6.3mm.
There's an S Pen at the back that attaches magnetically to a groove that lines up perfectly with the dual camera module. The device also has AKG-tuned speakers as well as a USB Type-C charging port. There's no 3.5mm headphone jack.
Specifications
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Tab S7 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor. It's paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Customers can also get it with 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage. MicroSD expansion up to 1TB is possible.
It doesn't have an in-display fingerprint sensor, though, as Samsung has opted to equip the tablet with a physical sensor on the right side of the frame. The tablet is offered in both Wi-Fi and 5G variants, with the latter being exclusive to markets where 5G is available. It has an 8,000mAh battery that supports 45W super fast charging.
An S Pen is included with the tablet that has seen its latency being cut down to just 9ms. This provides users with a more life-like experience when writing or drawing on the tablet using the stylus.
Display
Samsung has retained the 16:10 aspect ratio for the 11-inch display of the Galaxy Tab S7. However, the tablet only gets a 1600×2560 pixel resolution LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It doesn't have an AMOLED panel. The bezels around the display have been trimmed to allow for a more immersive viewing experience.
Camera
The Galaxy Tab S6's dual camera system has been carried over to the Galaxy Tab S7 as well. It features a 13MP primary camera at the back along with a 5MP ultra-wide camera. Upfront, there's an 8MP selfie camera that's placed on the right bezel.
Software
Samsung shipping the Galaxy Tab S7 with Android 10 out of the box and it came with One UI 2.5, the latest iteration of its custom Android skin at that time. Several new features were added to the tablets with One UI 2.5, in addition to various software enhancements for the S Pen.
Price and availability
Samsung will be releasing the Galaxy Tab S7 in the fall of 2020. Prices start at $649.99 for the tablet that's going to be available in Mystic Black, Mystic Bronze and Mystic Silver colors.
