Over the years, Samsung's IoT (Internet of Things) device ecosystem grew bigger around the SmartThings platform. In 2024, one of the smartest Samsung home appliances you can buy is a refrigerator. It's called Bespoke 4-Door Flex with AI Family Hub+, and even though it is a mouthful, Samsung proclaims it is “The industry's smartest fridge.”
You can't say this about most other fridges, but the Bespoke 4-Door Flex with AI Family Hub+ has a 1.8GHz six-core processor, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB of eMMC flash memory. It sounds more like a phone or a tablet than a fridge, but you'd be surprised how much they have in common.
Why does a fridge need such powerful hardware? Well, it's all in the AI Family Hub+ component and the AI Vision Inside camera system. In short, AI Family Hub+ is a 32-inch, vertically-oriented Full HD display embedded in one of the Bespoke Flex's doors.
This large screen is powered by Tizen, similar to Samsung smart TVs, and offers access to various apps, including YouTube, thanks to a 2024 update. Nevertheless, this is more than just a TV screen stuck to a refrigerator's door.
AI Vision Inside helps the magic happen
Another piece of the smart fridge puzzle is AI Vision Inside. As the name suggests, this is an AI-powered camera system inside the Bespoke 4-Door Flex fridge. Through it, users can view the contents of the refrigerator without opening its doors. This is not only convenient but can also save electricity in the long run.
Thanks to these clever cameras, users can get a live video feed of the refrigerator's contents on the 32-inch display or Galaxy phones or tablets through the SmartThings mobile app. In other words, you can check your fridge's contents remotely.
Even more than that, the AI Vision Inside camera system can recognize 33 food items and help users keep track of expiry dates through the SmartThings mobile app or the embedded 32-inch display.
The Bespoke 4-Door Flex with AI Family Hub+ can also recommend recipes and create meal plans through the Samsung Food (previously Whisk) platform, available through SmartThings.
Furthermore, by connecting the smart fridge to SmartThings, users can access detailed energy usage reports on their phones, remotely check if any of the doors are open, access precise per-zone temperature and humidity controls, get information about water filters, see if there are unexpected changes in temperature, and more.
The Bespoke 4-Door Flex with AI Family Hub+ is available in two sizes (Full Depth and Counter Depth). As a Bespoke-branded home appliance, it's designed to fit in with other Bespoke devices in your home. But the cherry on top is the MyBespoke customization service, which lets you pay extra to have Samsung print your custom photos on the fridge's removable door panels.
Indeed, the door panels are removable and come in a variety of colors even if you don't use the MyBespoke service. And did we mention that the door handles are touch-sensitive and open automatically at a gentle touch without you having to pull on them?
Needless to say, this smart fridge is chock-full of quality-of-life features, and Samsung is right in saying that it's the industry's leading fridge.
