Introduction
Samsung launched the Galaxy F series of phones in 2020. Galaxy F phones are rebranded versions of Galaxy M smartphones for markets in the Indian subcontinent, and in the first half of 2024, Samsung introduced the Galaxy F55, a rebranded Galaxy M55.
Design
While Galaxy M and Galaxy F phones launched before the Galaxy F55 were built the exact same way, Samsung switched things up for the F55. Instead of a plastic back, the Galaxy F55 sports a rear panel made of vegan leather that sets it apart from not just the Galaxy M55 but every other Galaxy phone launched previously.
The leather back features stitching on the sides for a hand-crafted look and feel and comes in orange and black. The rest is similar to the Galaxy M55, including a sleek 7.8mm profile and an Infinity-O display at the front with slightly slimmer bezels than the Galaxy F54. The complete dimensions of the phone are 163.9 x 76.5 x 7.8 mm and it weights 180 grams.
Display
The Galaxy F55 sports a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED+ screen with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,000 nits of peak brightness, HDR10+, and Vision Booster. The display is protected by Dragontail Glass and features an in-display optical fingerprint reader. It is accompanied by stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos support for a superior media viewing experience.
Specifications
The Galaxy F55 features the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor like the Galaxy M55. It is one of the first mid-range Galaxy phones to come in a variant with 12GB of RAM. Samsung offers the device in 8GB+128GB and 12GB+256GB memory configurations and provides storage expansion via a microSD slot.
The Galaxy F55 is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery that can charge at 45W (charger sold separately) and can last up to two days on a single charge and moderate use. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax 2.4GHz+5GHz, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, 5G, and GPS. It has a USB-C port but lacks a 3.5mm headphone port.
Camera
The Galaxy M55 features a 50MP primary rear camera and a 50MP selfie camera, with the latter a first for the Galaxy F series. The rear camera is accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro camera. The main camera sports optical image stabilization (OIS) and Video Digital Image Stabilization (VDIS) and supports video recording at 4K@30 fps and 1080p@30/60 fps.
Software and features
The Galaxy F55 comes preloaded with Android 14 and One UI 6.1. However, at launch, it doesn't include any Galaxy AI features that are part of the One UI 6.1 experience on flagship Galaxy phones and tablets. It is eligible for four years of major OS upgrades and five years of security updates.
Availability and price
The Galaxy F55's initial launch was set for the Indian market in May 2024. It is priced similarly to the Galaxy M55 and starts at around $330. Flipkart is the exclusive seller of the phone in India.
