Introduction
A few months after Samsung announced the Galaxy A13 5G in December 2021, the company followed up with a second announcement for a 4G variant of the device. Therefore, the Galaxy A13 4G was quietly announced in March 2022 as one of the company's most affordable Android smartphones of the year. The 4G model shares some similarities with the Galaxy A13 5G but features newer firmware out of the box and a higher-res display, among other minor upgrades.
Design
The Galaxy A13 4G looks almost exactly like the 5G variant. It has a unibody design that flows around the edges rather than a sandwich-like construction with a frame separating the front and back panels.
Samsung is offering the phone in four color options: blue, peach, black, and white. The device measures 165.1 x 76.4 x 8.8mm and weighs 195 grams.
The display has relatively thick bezels and an even thicker ‘chin,' while the top bezel is interrupted by an Infinity-V notch.
The main camera doesn't have a traditional hump, but rather, each sensor sticks out from the back panel through individual cutouts.
Specifications
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy A13 with an octa-core Exynos 850 chipset and 3/4/6GB of RAM. Storage options include 32/64/128GB.
The phone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 25W super-fast charging capabilities, though it ships without a wall charger.
Display
The Galaxy A13 features a 6.6-inch TFT LCD. It's limited to 60Hz and has a resolution of 2408 x 1080, so it delivers a higher pixel count than the 5G model.
The display has an Infinity-V notch, i.e., a ‘V-Cut,' where the selfie camera resides. The active area of the display is flat, but the glass covering it has a 2.5D (slightly curved) edge.
Camera
Although the 5G variant has three rear-facing cameras, the Galaxy A13 4G features an additional fourth sensor — ultra-wide — with a resolution of 5MP and an f/2.2 aperture.
The rest of the camera setup comprises a 50MP primary shooter (f/1.8) with PDAF, a 2MP (f/2.4) macro sensor, and a 2MP (f/2.4) depth camera. The selfie sensor was also upgraded to an 8MP resolution (f/2.2).
One of the Galaxy A13's best camera features is Single Take, which uses AI to capture photos and videos simultaneously. Single Take was a flagship-exclusive feature when the Galaxy S20 series debuted, but it's now available for the low-cost Galaxy A13.
Software and features
Single Take comes to the Galaxy A13 through One UI 4.1 and Android 12. Indeed, even if this phone is meant for the budget market, it's shipping with the latest available version of Android OS and One UI.
Evidently, you won't find every One UI 4.1 feature on the Galaxy A13. The device is somewhat limited by the low-cost hardware, so you won't find certain One UI 4.1 features — like DeX — that you usually get from flagship Galaxy phones.
Availability and price
Samsung announced the Galaxy A13 without much fanfare at the beginning of March. Pricing and availability details were missing initially, but a few days after the official announcement — on March 8 — the Galaxy A13 went on sale in the Netherlands for the starting price of €189.
