Introduction
The Galaxy A16 5G was released in October 2024 as a teaser for what will eventually become Samsung's mid-range smartphone lineup for 2025. It brings some key upgrades over the Galaxy A15 5G, including support for six years of software updates.
Design
Like most Galaxy smartphones launched in 2024, flagship or otherwise, the Galaxy A16 5G has a flatter design compared to its predecessors. Impressively, the phone sports an IP54 certification for official protection against water and dust, a first for an entry-level Galaxy A smartphone.
The front side of the phone is covered by a 6.7-inch display and an Infinity-U notch that holds the selfie camera. There's a glossy plastic back panel that comes in four different colors. The back also includes three cameras arranged vertically. On the right side, there's what Samsung calls the Key Island frame with protruding volume and power keys.
The Galaxy A16 5G has a 7.9mm profile and weighs 200g. It lacks a 3.5mm headphone port because of the thinner body. The full dimensions are 164.4 x 77.9 x 7.9 mm.
Specifications
The Galaxy A16 5G has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. It is powered by the Exynos 1330 processor in some markets and the MediaTek Dimensity 6300+ in others. There's 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage on the base variant. The A16 5G is among the first Samsung phones to support microSD cards of up to 1.5TB.
The A16 5G has a triple rear camera setup that includes a 50MP primary shooter, a 5MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro camera. The front has a 13MP camera. The device can record Full HD videos at 30 fps and HD slow motion videos at 120 fps
As befits the name, the phone supports 5G connectivity. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS (GPS, Glonass, Beidou, Galileo, QZSS), and a Type-C USB 2.0 port.
The A16 5G comes with a hybrid SIM slot that can hold two SIM cards or one SIM card and a microSD card. There's a capacitive fingerprint reader built into the power button and gyro, geomagnetic, light, and a couple of other sensors.
The phone has a 5,000 mAh battery under the hood that supports 25W super fast charging.
Software and Features
The Galaxy A16 5G runs Android 14 and One UI 6.1 out of the box. It is eligible for six Android OS upgrades and six years of One UI and security updates. As it's an affordable phone, the A16 5G does not offer any Galaxy AI features.
Availability and Price
The Galaxy A16 5G launched in Europe with a suggested retail price of €229. It comes in four colors: Blue Black, Light Gray, Gold, and Light Green.
