Introduction
The Galaxy A51 was one of Samsung's most successful phones of 2020. The company launched a separate 5G variant of the device later in the year. It's taking a similar approach for the Galaxy A52.
Samsung has launched separate LTE and 5G variants of the Galaxy A52. The 5G variant has a couple of improvements over its LTE sibling, which is itself a revolutionary upgrade when compared to the Galaxy A51.
Design
Samsung's new Galaxy A52 5G takes a more modern approach to design, as it features a camera housing that resembles the Galaxy Note 20 series, along a matte back panel that really makes the new color options pop.
The phone has a flat display with an Infinity-O cutout for the selfie camera, and the physical buttons reside on the right edge, as usual. The Galaxy A52 5G has an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, a feature that wasn't present on its predecessor.
Display
The Galaxy A52 5G has a 6.5-inch Infinity-O Super AMOLED FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It's actually an improvement over the LTE Galaxy A52 which has a 90Hz refresh rate. This is Samsung's first mid-range smartphone with a refresh rate of 120Hz, a feature previously available on the company's flagships only.
Specifications
The 5G variant of the Galaxy A52 stands out as it's the only handset in this series to come with the Snapdragon 750G chipset under the hood. The processor is paired with 6/8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage. There's a 4,500mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging and yes, a charger does come in the box.
Additional specs include an in-display fingerprint sensor, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB-Type C port for connectivity and charging.
Camera
A big improvement has been made to the camera setup. The Galaxy A52 5G comes with a 64-megapixel optically stabilized primary sensor paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, 5-megapixel depth and 5-megapixel macro camera with support for digital zoom up to 10X. There's a 32-megapixel front camera as well. It has the exact same camera setup as the LTE variant.
Software
Android 11 and One UI 3.1 come pre-installed on the Galaxy A52 5G. This means that it gets a plethora of new features, including the enhanced integration of Google apps that was announced earlier in 2021.
Samsung has confirmed that it's going to support the Galaxy A52 5G for three years of Android OS upgrades. The handset will also be supported for four years of security updates.
Price and Availability
The Galaxy A52 5G was released in Europe on March 17, 2021. That's also the day when the handset was unveiled by the company. Prices start at €429. The handset would eventually go on to be available in other markets.
