Introduction
The Galaxy A52 5G is one of Samsung's best smartphones of 2021. It's a great mid-range phone, and it enjoyed enough success to prompt Samsung to release a refreshed S-branded model.
Enter the Galaxy A52s 5G. It's a slightly upgraded version of the Galaxy A52 5G, with nearly identical characteristics except for a couple of differences.
The Galaxy A52 5G is already an exceptional device for the mid-range segment, with little room for improvement. Nevertheless, Samsung found a way to make this mid-range phone even better and gave it a newer, more powerful chipset.
Design
The Galaxy A52s looks almost the same as the Galaxy A52 5G, with one exception: it comes in a new color option, replacing blue with mint. It was launched in four “Awesome” color options: black, mint, violet, and white.
The Galaxy A52s has an Infinity-O display cutout and a familiar-looking camera housing on the back panel. The body is made of polycarbonate, and unlike the majority of mid-range phones that lack water resistance, the Galax A52s IP67-rated for dust and water resistance.
The phone has a 3.5mm audio port and USB-C connector at the bottom and boasts stereo speakers.
Specifications
The Galaxy A52s 5G replaces the Snapdragon 750G chipset with a more powerful solution called the Snapdragon 778G 5G. It has one Kryo 670 (Cortex-A78) CPU core clocked at 2.4GHz, three Kryo 670 (Cortex-A78) cores operating at up to 2.2GHz, and four energy-efficient Kryo 670 (Cortex-A55) cores clocked at 1.9GHz. The CPU works alongside an Adreno 642L graphics chip.
Samsung is giving Galaxy A52s customers two memory options: 6GB/8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage or 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. A microSD card slot is available. Much like the non-S model, the refresh uses a 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging capabilities.
Display and camera
The Infinity-O display design is unchanged. The phone has a Super AMOLED panel with 120Hz high refresh rate capabilities. It has a resolution of 2400 by 1080 and an aspect ratio of 20:9.
The panel has rounded corners much like other modern Galaxy smartphones.
Likewise, the camera is unchanged from the Galaxy A52 5G. Then again, the quad-camera combo is already great for the price point. It consists of a 64MP main sensor with OIS and PDAF, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and two 5MP sensors for depth and macro photography. The selfie camera clocks in at a resolution of 32MP and can record 4K videos.
Software and features
The Galaxy A52s was announced early enough in 2021 to be released with Android 11 out of the box. It should be eligible for Samsung's new firmware policy, meaning it should eventually be upgraded to Android 14.
Availability and price
The Galaxy A52s 5G was announced for Europe at a starting price of €449. The 256GB model was announced for €509.
The phone was also confirmed for India and other markets. Pricing differs by region, much like color and memory availability.
