Introduction
Samsung's Galaxy Fit series of wrist wearables took a back seat to the Galaxy Watch lineup after the Fit 2 went on sale in 2020. Following almost four years of absence, the Korean tech giant brought its budget-oriented fitness tracker series back into the limelight with the Galaxy Fit 3. And Samsung didn't shy away from upgrading the formula and beefing up its 2024 Fit model.
Design
The Galaxy Fit 3 marks the Fit series' complete redesign. The rubber fitness band look is out, and it is a new smartwatch-like design that seemingly draws some inspiration from the Apple Watch.
The Galaxy Fit 3's internal components are housed in a sandblasted aluminum case attached to silicone wrist straps through a one-click mechanism. The latter makes detaching and replacing the straps easier.
Samsung's Galaxy Fit 3 tracker has a rectangular display, which is wider compared to the panel used by previous Fit models. The screen is a 1.57-inch full-color OLED touchscreen that offers more information at a glance.
The 2024 fitness tracker also boasts an IP68 dust and water resistance rating and 5ATM resistance. On paper, the Galaxy Fit 3 is just as dust and water-tight as modern Galaxy Watches.
Color options include Gray, Pink Gold, and Silver. Availability may differ by market. The Galaxy Fit 3 weighs 36.8 grams and measures 42.9 x 28.8 x 9.9mm.
Specifications
The Galaxy Fit 3 is equipped with a gyro, an accelerometer, an optical heart-rate sensor, a barometer, and a light sensor. It lacks GPS but has Emergency SOS and Fall Detection capabilities.
As far as fitness and health tracking are concerned, the wearable can detect fitness activities and a variety of workout types and track your sleep and stress levels. Everything is synced with the Samsung Health platform via the connected smartphone.
Unlike Galaxy Watches, which run Wear OS and One UI Watch, the Galaxy Fit 3 is powered by a different operating system called FreeRTOS. It's fairly lightweight but boasts 100 watch faces and Galaxy Fit 3 users get extra features like SmartThings Find, remote Camera shutter functionality, and media playback controls. However, since the Galaxy Fit 3 lacks a microphone and speaker, it can't be used to answer phone calls.
The Galaxy Fit 3 does benefit from Mode syncing with the connected Galaxy phone and also comes with mini-apps such as World Clock, Calendar, Weather, and more.
Hardware-wise, the Galaxy Fit 3 relies on 16MB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It might not sound like a lot, but this lightweight approach has benefits, as the Galaxy Fit 3's small 208mAh battery can last up to 13 days on a single charge, beating Galaxy Watches by more than a week.
Price and Availability
Samsung announced the Galaxy Fit 3 in late February 2024. It went on sale in Asia, Europe, Central America, and South America starting on February 23. Samsung also planned to release the wearable in Korea at a later date. In most markets, the Galaxy Fit 3 went on sale for around $60.
