Introduction
In early 2024, Samsung launched a few Galaxy M series phones that took some specs of their Galaxy A series counterparts while downgrading or changing some aspects of the hardware. In March 2024, Samsung announced the Galaxy M15, a device that is almost a 100% percent copy of the Galaxy A15 5G.
Design
In the budget segment, Galaxy smartphones come with a traditional Samsung design. The Galaxy M15 has glass on the front and a plastic back and frame, with vertically aligned rear-facing cameras and an Infinity-U notch for the front-facing cameras.
Its dimensions are 160.1 x 76.8 x 9.3 mm and it weighs 217g (the M15 is thicker and heavier than the A15 5G). The volume and power keys are placed on the right side of the device, with the power button doubling up as a fingerprint sensor.
The Galaxy M15's color options include Blue Topaz, Celestial Blue, and Stone Grey.
Display
The Galaxy M15 sports a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display. The display runs at a refresh rate of 90Hz and has a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. The display specs are not the best, but the presence of a 90Hz refresh rate, Super AMOLED panel, and Full HD+ resolution helps the Galaxy M15 punch above its weight where the viewing experience is concerned.
Specifications
The Galaxy M15 is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ chipset, which is the 5G-enabled variant of the MediaTek Helio G99. It comes with 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB of RAM, with the option to further extend RAM using Samsung's virtual RAM Plus feature.
Storage options include 128GB and 256GB, with a microSD slot providing storage expansion up to an additional 1TB. The M15 has a 6,000 mAh battery with 25W charging support. It has a 3.5mm headphone port and a USB-C port, along with Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.
Camera
The Galaxy M15 has a 50MP primary rear camera with an F1.8 aperture, similar to many Galaxy devices launched in 2022 and later. The 50MP camera is accompanied by a 5MP F2.2 ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP F2.4 macro camera. For selfies, the A14 has a single 13-megapixel sensor with an F2.0 aperture. The camera specs, like many others, are an exact copy of the Galaxy A15 5G.
Software and Features
The Galaxy M15 ships with Android 14 and One UI 6.1. It is guaranteed four major Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates.
Availability and Price
The Galaxy M15 was quietly launched in select markets in March 2024, but its pricing info was first revealed when the device went on sale in India in April. It was priced at INR 13,299 for the base variant in India, which is roughly equivalent to $160.
