Introduction
Samsung usually launches three Galaxy S series high-end phones every year. For the year 2025, the Galaxy S25+ will be the middle of the pack, with the Galaxy S25 being the entry model and the Galaxy S25 Ultra being the highest-end device. As such, Samsung will have to do a delicate balancing job for the Galaxy S25+.
The upcoming smartphone, which is likely to be announced in early 2025, is expected to bring display, camera, and performance improvements. It will likely keep using the same design as its predecessor, the Galaxy S24+.
Specifications
The Galaxy S25+ could use a 3nm chip, and that chip could differ based on the country. Reports say that China, Canada, and the US will get the variant of the phone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip, while other countries could get the Exynos 2500 chip that Samsung named a few weeks ago. It could have 12GB RAM and 256GB/512GB storage variants.
The phone could have a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen with QHD+ resolution and a 120Hz variable refresh rate. The screen could be covered with some version of Gorilla Glass. The phone will likely have an aluminum frame and a Gorilla Glass back. It could also feature an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.
The device could be powered by a 4,900mAh battery with 45W fast wired charging and 15W fast wireless charging. It could also feature 4.5W Wireless PowerShare to charge Galaxy Buds. It may have stereo speakers and an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader.
Cameras
Samsung could equip the Galaxy S25+ with a 50MP primary rear camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. At the front, it could have a 12MP selfie camera. Its primary camera can record 8K 30fps videos, while all the other cameras can record videos as high as 4K 60fps.
Unfortunately, the 50MP ultrawide camera that is expected to come to the Galaxy S25 Ultra is reportedly not coming to the Galaxy S25+. Still, Samsung may make improvements to image and video quality through better processing and improved stabilization.
Software and features
Looking at Samsung's track record, the Galaxy S25+ could run Android 15-based One UI 7.1 software out of the box. Since the South Korean firm raised the bar for software updates to seven years with the Galaxy S24 series, it will likely keep the same bar for the Galaxy S25+, too. So, the Galaxy S25+ may get updated till Android 22.
It will likely include new and improved Galaxy AI features and major improvements to One UI, including newer app icons, improved stock apps, and smoother animations and transitions.
Availability and price
The Galaxy S25+'s 256 GB version could cost $999 in the USA, and the 512GB version could cost $1,099. However, Samsung will likely offer promotions and discounts for those who pre-order the device.
The South Korean firm is expected to announce the Galaxy S25+ sometime in mid-January 2025. The phone could reach store shelves in most markets by the end of January or early February.
