Introduction
Samsung launched two new Fan Edition tablets—Galaxy Tab S9 FE and Galaxy Tab S9 FE+—in October 2023. The Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ is the bigger one of the two, with a 12.4-inch screen, and it is the successor to the Galaxy Tab S7 FE, which launched in 2021.
The Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ brings several improvements over its predecessor, including a more fluid display panel, a tougher build, a better front-facing camera, a more potent chipset, and more RAM. So, it's a good improvement over the Galaxy Tab S7 FE.
Design
The Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ has the same premium design and build as the more premium Galaxy Tab S9+. It has an aluminum unibody design and thin bezels around the screen. It also comes bundled with an S Pen stylus that can be magnetically attached to the tablet when it's not in use. It also has the same IP68 dust and water resistance rating as the Galaxy Tab S9.
It measures 185.4 x 285.4 x 6.5mm and weighs around 627g. It is sold in four color variants: Gray, Lavender, Mint, and Silver.
Display
The Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ is a big tablet with a 12.4-inch IPS LCD screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio and QHD+ resolution. It feels fluid, thanks to its 90Hz refresh rate, which was missing from its predecessor. The screen has the Vision Booster feature to improve its legibility under direct sunlight. It has 600 nits brightness, but that can go as high as 750 nits in certain situations. It has a stereo speaker setup for a better audio experience.
The S Pen that comes bundled with the Galaxy Tab S9 FE can be used to write and draw. You can either use Samsung's first-party Samsung Notes and PenUP apps or use popular third-party apps like Clip Studio Paint and GoodNotes.
Specifications
The Exynos 1380 processor is under the hood of the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+. It is a good step up from the Galaxy Tab S7 FE's Snapdragon 750G/Snapdragon 778G chipset, featuring four high-performance Cortex-A78 CPU cores and four power-efficient Cortex-A55 CPU cores. The tablet has 8GB/12GB RAM and 128GB/256GB internal storage. You can expand the storage by another 1TB, thanks to the built-in microSD card slot.
The Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ is powered by a 10,090mAh battery. It supports 45W fast wired charging and can last a whole day on a single charge.
Camera
The Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ has an 8MP+8MP dual-camera setup on the rear, and both cameras can record 1080p videos. One of the rear cameras has a wide-angle lens, while the other has an ultrawide lens. On the front, the device has a 12MP ultrawide-angle camera with 4K 30fps video recording.
Software and Features
The Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ runs Android 13-based One UI 5.1.1 software out of the box. Samsung has promised to offer four major Android OS updates and five years of security updates to the tablet, similar to the rest of the Galaxy Tab S9 series. The tablet can also run Samsung DeX on the screen but lacks external monitor support.
Availability and Price
The Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ pricing starts at $599 for the 128GB version with Wi-Fi connectivity. It will be available starting October 10 in select countries.
