Introduction
The Galaxy Watch FE is Samsung's first Fan Edition smartwatch. It aims to offer the most important features of regular Galaxy Watches at a more attractive price point. With that intent, Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch FE by bringing almost all the features of the Galaxy Watch 4.
Samsung made a few changes to the Galaxy Watch FE, including a stitch effect on the watch band and Sapphire Crystal glass protection on the screen. It also brought the one-click release mechanism for watch bands, which was introduced with the Galaxy Watch 6.
Design
The Galaxy Watch FE has a circular screen and a 40mm aluminum case. For UI navigation, it has two buttons on the right side of the case. Overall, it looks extremely similar to the Galaxy Watch 4. The only way to distinguish the two is the blue and orange stitching on the silicone watch band. This band also features one-click release mechanism.
The smartwatch is available in Black, Pink, Gold, and Silver colors.
Its 1.2-inch Super AMOLED screen has a resolution of 396 x 396 pixels and is protected by Sapphire Crystal glass. It also features a full-color always-on display (AoD).
The Galaxy Watch FE has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. It also has an MIL-STD-810H-compliant design for shock resistance. It is 9.8mm thin and weighs 26.6g without the watch band.
Specifications
As a Fan Edition smartwatch, Samsung had to reduce some features, and the biggest axe the Galaxy Watch FE received compared to the Galaxy Watch 6 is the processor. The Galaxy Watch FE uses the Exynos W920 processor, which was three years old at the time of its launch. It is the same chipset that is used in the Galaxy Watch 4. It also features 1.5GB RAM and 16GB storage.
The Galaxy Watch FE is equipped with an accelerometer, barometer, compass, ECG, GNSS (Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, and GPS), gyro, and heart-rate monitor for activity, health, and sleep tracking. It also features a bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) sensor that measures body fat composition to give you additional information about your body and progress during weight loss.
Samsung has also equipped the Galaxy Watch FE with an ambient light sensor, a microphone, and a loudspeaker. The smartwatch is powered by a 247mAh battery and charges via a magnetic wireless mechanism.
Its connectivity features include Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC.
Software and Features
The Galaxy Watch FE debuted with One UI 5.0 Watch, which is based on Wear OS 4. It can pair with Android smartphones to display notifications, track sleep and workouts, and monitor health.
It lets you make and receive calls (via Bluetooth connection to the smartphone), use apps, and check relevant information through watch face complications and tiles. You can also control the camera and music playback. You can also use it to make mobile payments on the go (using Samsung Pay).
Price and Availability
The Galaxy Watch FE was announced on June 13, 2024, and was slated to go on sale on June 24, 2024. Its Bluetooth-only variant is priced at $199.99 in the USA, while its LTE variant costs $249.99.
