Introduction
Samsung's rugged smartphone series continues in 2022 with the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro. Announced at the end of June, the XCover 6 Pro boasts a resilient body, the latest software, and a better chipset than Samsung's beloved mid-range hero, the Galaxy A53.
The new rugged model has a couple of extra aces up its sleeve compared to regular Galaxy smartphones. Not only is it more resilient, but it has a user-removable battery.
Design
The Galaxy XCover 6 Pro has a more industrial exterior design with ridged edges and a removable back panel that makes way for a user-replaceable battery. This phone makes a good case of function over form, hence the relatively wide bezels and somewhat heavy construction.
The phone was announced in a single color option, black, and has red design elements around the rear-facing cameras and the physical buttons. As expected from a device in the XCover series, the new model has a reprogramable XCover Key to the side, and a so-called Top Key.
The Galaxy XCover 6 Pro measures 168.8 x 79.9 x 9.9mm and weighs around 235 grams owing to the rugged construction. It is MIL-STD-810H-certified and has Gorilla Glass Victus+ display protection.
Specifications
Samsung's new rugged phone for 2022 is powered by a Qualcomm-supplied chipset. More specifically, the Snapdragon 778G.
The device has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage. It features a microSD card slot capable of reading cards of up to 1TB capacity.
Other details worth mentioning include dual SIM support in some markets, a USB Type-C 3.2 port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Dolby Atmos, two microphones, Samsung Knox security, Samsung DeX, 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.2.
Undeniably, one of the more unique features of the XCover 6 Pro is its 4,050mAh user-removable battery with 15W charging.
Display
Although the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro has a TFT screen rather than AMOLED, the panel is capable of a 120Hz refresh rate.
The display has a 6.6-inch diagonal and an FHD+ resolution. Samsung applied a protective sheet of Gorilla Glass Victus+ on top of the screen.
The display has wide bezels, an even wider “chin,” and an Infinity-V notch for the selfie camera.
Camera
Mobile photography enthusiasts buying the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro will get a dual rear-facing camera and a 13MP selfie sensor with an f/2.2 aperture.
The primary camera system consists of a 50MP sensor with autofocus and an f/1.8 aperture, along with an 8MP ultra-wide f/2.2 camera.
Software and Features
Samsung is shipping the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro with Android 12. The mobile OS is accompanied by One UI 4.1.
As a smartphone aimed primarily at enterprise customers, the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro comes with several useful software features, including Samsung Knox security, Samsung DeX, and more audio options for louder volume during voice calls.
Availability and Price
The Galaxy XCover 6 Pro was unveiled on June 29. Samsung scheduled the phone to go on sale on July 13 in select markets in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
The device is available for €599. The Galaxy XCover 6 Pro Enterprise Edition has a price tag of €609. At launch, Samsung said the phone will reach additional markets gradually.
