Introduction
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 turned out to be an absolute hit. It had a lot going for it. From the sleek design to the powerful performance and unique form factor, people just couldn't get enough of the device. Its lowered price tag also made it very attractive to customers.
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 takes the baton from this exceptional device. Samsung made incredible refinements and improvements to the device, thereby making a phone that has the potential to outsell its popular predecessor.
Design
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 retains the signature clamshell foldable form factor. Samsung hasn't made any major design changes but has improved the fit and finish of the device. The Armor Aluminum body is tough and durable with a glossy finish on the frame and flatter edges. The matte color panels contrast it very nicely.
The hinge is a bit smaller this time around. Samsung is also offering the Galaxy Z Flip 4 Bespoke Edition with 75 possible color combinations to choose from. The Bespoke Edition is available to customers in 28 countries across the globe.
Specifications
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 delivers flagship-level performance as it's powered by the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. There's 8GB of RAM with up to 512GB of available storage. There's no microSD card slot for external expansion, though.
Samsung equipped the Galaxy Z Fold 4 with a 12% larger 3,700mAh battery compared to the 3,300mAh battery of the Galaxy Z Flip 4. A fingerprint sensor is present in the power button just like before.
Display
A larger cover display is one of the improvements that Samsung has made to this device. The 1.9-inch cover display allows users to do more without having to unfold the device. This includes shooting quick replies to messages, controlling settings, accessing Samsung Pay, taking portraits, and more.
The internal foldable display has the same 6.7-inch size with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. The flexible panel gets durability improvements as well. However, there's no support for the S Pen.
Camera
The primary dual camera setup consists of a 12-megapixel wide-angle sensor with OIS and Dual Pixel AF. The sensor is larger and the pixel size has been increased as well for brighter results in low light conditions.
It's paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera. There's a 10-megapixel selfie camera present on top of the internal display as well. The lack of a proper telephoto sensor is something that many fans wished Samsung would have addressed with this iteration.
Software and Features
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 ships with Android 12 and One UI 4.1.1 out of the box. The device is eligible for four major OS upgrades, so it's covered until Android 16. The One UI 5.0 upgrade for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 should be out before the end of 2022.
Availability and Price
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 4 at its Unpacked event on August 10, 2022. Pre-orders for the device were opened the same day with August 26 as the launch day. Prices start at $999. Samsung offers the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in ora Purple, Graphite, Pink Gold, and Blue colors/
